Simply put, what falls to the carpet - such as allergens, common dust, pet dander and other pollutants - tends to stay in the carpet until it is extracted, unlike smooth surfaces that allow these particles to re-circulate. Properly maintained carpet leads to improved air quality and a healthier indoor environment because regular vacuuming with Carpet and Rug Institute certified carpet extractors which we use - locks pollutants in the machine and removes them from the air you breathe.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
Nearly 30 percent of our nation’s buildings suffer from indoor air quality problems. Twenty percent are serious. Indoor air quality is one of the Environment Canada’s top five environmental health risks of our time. With a cost estimated at over $100 billion in North America each year in health care, absenteeism, lost production time and lost revenue.
Microorganisms, dust mites, allergens and mold spore have been identified as a major contributor of common indoor air quality problems. Regular cleaning of your carpets can reduce the amount of particulate and microorganism, preventing exposure and thus, vastly improving working conditions.
Research studies have shown that hot water extraction regularly can help reduce the following:
  • Dust mites by 78%
  • Dust mite allergen by 75%
  • Cat allergen by 85%
  • Mold spores by 85%
  • Kills 99.99% of Bacteria, Viruses, Mold and Mildew (Even MRSA - Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus [Super Bug])
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Use CRI (Carpet & Rug Institute) Seal of Approval cleaning products & service providers. An independent laboratory tests solutions, spot removers, vacuums and deep cleaning extractors and systems. Only those that meet high performance standards receive the Seal of Approval. You can also professionally clean your carpets every 6-12 months. Regular vacuuming removes soil and dust, but periodic professional cleaning is needed to remove embedded dirt.
What IS LEED CERTIFICATION?
LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures. All certified projects receive a LEED plaque, which is the nationally recognized symbol demonstrating that a building is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work.
Who uses leed?
Window Cleaner Architects, real estate professionals, facility managers, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, construction managers, lenders and government officials all use LEED to help transform the built environment to sustainability. State and local governments across the country are adopting LEED for public-owned and public-funded buildings; there are LEED initiatives in federal agencies, including the Departments of Defense, Agriculture, Energy, and State; and LEED projects are in progress in 41 different countries, including Canada, Brazil, Mexico and India.
What are the categories?
New Construction. LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations is designed to guide and distinguish high-performance commercial and institutional projects.
Existing Buildings. LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance provides a benchmark for building owners and operators to measure operations, improvements and maintenance.
Commercial Interiors. LEED for Commercial Interiors is a benchmark for the tenant improvement market that gives the power to make sustainable choices to tenants and designers.
